Take a walk through some t-shirt shops from your computer

The T-shirt Review has a great blog post about the website Iffyton High Street - which is a cool website from the UK where the links to the t-shirt shops are lined up like a store front.  I think this is kind of a cool way to check out some great t-shirt shops.  Iffyton High Street also has an online music venue and a tv channel as part of the businesses on the street.

T-shirt Magazine

Tobi (he blogs on the German Spreadshirt Blog) just sent me a link for T-shirt Magazine.com.  I did a little clicking around and I think there is a lot of good stuff here.  I especially liked that the editors pick of the day is from a Spreadshirt shop - The Tee Party.  Check out The Tee Party shop - I love that they have some pictures of people wearing their shirts.

Ribbed vs. Jersey Knit - What is the difference?

Well that is a good question.  Yes there is a difference between the two.

Kevin posts a good explanation about this on his blog about T-shirts - Common Threadz.

Essential difference: Rib knit is stretchy, jersey knit isn’t. Ribbed knit are usually more fitted, and consequently popular for many girls styles. Jersey knit is what you find most mens styles offered in. Your standard traditional men’s t-shirt is jersey knit. There has been a move towards ribbed knit in general however across many markets.

Think of ribbed knit like the weave of a cheap Chinese finger trap you win at the arcade. and think of jersey knit like your more traditional grid.

I hope this helps you find the t-shirt you are looking for - I would say that ribbed knits offer a more fitted shirt - the stretchy fabric fits closer to the body.

The Men’s Jersey t-shirt is a jersey t-shirt.

The Junior’s cap sleeve t-shirt is a rib.  I think you can kind of see the ribbing in this picture.

Social Networking for Some T-shirts

I was very excited to read about Rumplo on Fantastic Blognanza.  Rumplo is a social networking site for t-shirts - you can save and share your favorite t-shirts, see new shirts, leave comments on shirts and share with your friends on Rumplo.  The site is really well designed and very easy to use.  I also like how easy it is to add a t-shirt to Rumplo - just submit the url and it does the rest.  But then a roadblock, Rumplo does not accept t-shirts from Spreadshirt!

Here is their explaination:

After initially allowing submissions from on-demand printers we’ve stopped. We found the kind of shirts submitted from on-demand printers were of markedly different styles than the community of independent t-shirt shops that we created Rumplo to serve. And Cafepress and other services like it already provide many of the tools Rumplo offers, as well as a community of sorts, so we decided to focus on serving t-shirt artisans and shops that don’t have these tools available to them.

I am saddened by this because I know that Spreadshirt has some amazing t-shirt designs and that our flex flock printing is as good as (and often better than screen printing).  So Rumplo is cool, but is limited in its selection of cool t-shirts.

T-shirts of 2007

Addicteed has blog post of all of their featured t-shirts from 2007. It is really great to see such an interesting lineup of t-shirts all in one place.

This is one of my favorites - plus there are a few text t-shirts in the collection too.

What was your favorite t-shirt from 2007?

Meet LaFraise

No, this is not another post about learning a new language (we are still working on German). I will tell you that LaFraise is French for strawberry. But LaFraise is much more than a tasty summer fruit. Part of our big bad back to school promotion is the launch of LaFraise t-shirts in the US. So I thought it would be good to take a moment and intoduce LaFraise. LaFraise (which is part of the Spreadshirt family) is a big big t-shirt competition.

laFraise.com is Europe’s biggest T-Shirt design competition. Three to four designs are chosen every week from over 100 daily submissions to be printed and sold from the site. laFraise.com respects designers: our shirts are strictly limited to 500 per design: We don’t do reprints and designers get their copyrights back. Oh, and: winning designers get 1000 €!

DESIGN : you want to take part? if you submit your design you take part in all our competitions, European wide! Greater chance of winning, and greater exposure for your work.

PARTICIPATE : Designer? Submit. Enthusiast? Praise or flame others creations. Make your opinions heard by voting the submissions. Get all the latest information from the blog.

SHOP : Here you can buy the winning shirts. They’re good. Oh yes. Need proof? Check out this collection of some of our winning designs. Over 80,000 community members have already voted to get them this far.

ABC easy as 123

Preshrunk (great t-shirt blog) has featured this good looking Alphabet t-shirt from Angry Retail.  I just wanted to point out this t-shirt because it is another great example of how text on a shirt looks great.  Spreadshirt rocks the text t-shirts!

Commercial Entertainment

Commercials are fun to watch. You know that one of the main reasons you watch the super bowl is to see the commercials. There is even a blog called The Best Super Bowl Commercials. How about a commercial for your shirts?

Jana sent me a link to this post on T-shirt Watch about Sidearm Clothing’s YouTube commercial.

I think T-shirt Watch is right on the money - viral video can be a cost effective way to promote your shop.

And for t-shirt entrepreneurs who usually start up with a shoestring budget working out of a garage, or with an online shop like CafePress, or Spreadshirt, it’s a great medium to inexpensively promote their shops.

Thanks for the shout out to Spreadshirt. I really like this Sidearm spot - it is not complicated but has a great soundtrack and shows off their shirts.

Have you created a video for your shop?  We want to see!  Leave a link below or email me lpa - at - spreadshirt.com
