PodCamp Hawaii Sets Up Shop with Spreadshirt

I am a big big fan of PodCamp. My friend Dave first introduced me to PodCamp in 2006 for the first PodCamp Pittsburgh. Click here to see my previous post about PodCamp Pittsburgh 2006. I have met alot of great people through podcamp and we have met some great new shop partners through podcamp too.

I was extra excited to see that PodCamp Hawaii has set up a shop with Spreadshirt. One of my best friends has recently moved back to Honolulu and I am planning a return visit there soon. I wonder if I can make it there for PodCamp Hawaii which will be held in Honolulu October 24-25, 2008.

Save on New Bags for You and Some New Uses for Plastic Bags

The race is on to reduce plastic bag use across the US. Spreadshirt offers custom totes - so you can express your self on your reusable shopping bags. The reusable bags from some of the stories are very pretty but I like to bring my own so that they don’t get confused with other people’s totes and it is a great way to promote my blog. Our totes and all of the other products in the eco-friendly category are 15% off through April 22, 2008 - use coupon code EARTHDAY4- click here for all the details.

Plastic Bag Fashions

Whole Foods will stop giving out plastic bags on April 22, 2008. To celebrate the Whole Foods in Raleigh will hold a fashion show of clothing made out of plastic bags. More details here.

What came first the Chicken or the Bag

I saw this little guy at a great shop here in Pittsburgh, Fresh Heirlooms, that only sells items made from recycled items.

MacWorld, Geek Shirts and Tie-Dye

I have a friend who travel to Austin frequently for work and we were talking about the SXSW conference this weekend. So conferences have been on my mind. Then I got the Squidoo lens of the day email about the Macworld Expo which starts tomorrow in SanFrancisco (I really don’t get Squidoo that much - it is kind of like a preblog sort of platform - but I do find their lens of the day emails kind of interesting).

One of my favorite blog posts from last year is the round up of geek t-shirts from last years SXSW. So I was curious to see what kind of t-shirts are around for Macworld. Right on the front page of the Macworld Expo site are some t-shirts for purchase. I was kind of surprised to see this one…
tie die mac world

The SXSW geek t-shirts are awesome (none are tie-dyed) so I had high hopes for the official Macworld gear. Here is my question is tie-dye geek? Does anyone wear tie-dye anymore?

Today was my first day of my bowling league (Is bowling geeky?) I had to use the rainbow colored ball, that looks like it was tie-dyed, because I am not strong enough to roll the heavier balls. I made a few jokes about wearing a Hypercolor t-shirts to bowling next week so I could match my rainbow ball. Do they even make Hypercolor shirts anymore?

I would think Hypercolor is a little more geek than tie-dye but honestly I don’t think I would wear either of them to a conference. Would you buy a tie-dye Macworld expo shirt? What are the coolest Mac t-shirts you have seen? Take a look at the Flickr group for Apple t-shirts or the group for Geek t-shirts for some ideas.

Extreme Customization

We do custom, and I like the sound of “extreme customization.” Extreme Customization is the tag line for the 2007 World Conference on Mass Customization & Personalization which is happening this week in Boston. Some extremely cool people from Spreadshirt will be there learning more about everything custom. Ami is has posted a few posts about Boston, the conference and the cool phone next to the toilet in their hotel room over on the Open Logo Project blog.

Here is a picture of Ami and Adam at MIT - Mass Customization is Fun!

A Film About Fonts

We love text here at Spreadshirt and spend a lot of time looking at fonts. This film looks like a very interesting look at a font that we may take for granted. Helvetica is currently playing at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and it is an entire film about fonts.

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.

Helvetica encompasses the worlds of design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and invites us to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day.

For more information about the film and to find a screening near you visit www.helveticafilm.com

Ribbon Cutting at Spreadshirt

We’ve moved and today was the official ribbon cutting ceremony on our new production facility. Just down the road from our old digs, the new location is bright and sunny with lots of room for t-shirts and for fun things too (we had to put away the ping pong table about our old home to make room for t-shirts).

Congressman Tim Murphy stopped by to help cut the ribbon. We also had some shop partners and local media on hand (look for us on the evening news) to help us celebrate. We even had some really big scissors to help cut the ribbon.

More pictures available here.

Spreadshirt onAIR

Last week the Adobe bus tour made a stop in Pittsburgh to show off their new scripting language AIR.  Even though it was a Friday night, we were there to check it out.

Here is a picture of Jesse and Leah enjoying the tasty snacks (I was thrilled to find some baby burghers since my usual baby burgher caught on fire last week)

Follow those shirts…

Check out this cool idea from the Spreadshirt office in Germany.  Early this month they set up a booth at the Leipzig town fair (Leipzig is the town in Germany where the Spreadshirt office is located).  They ran a long closeline with t-shirts from the office to the booth to show off the t-shirts and so that everyone could find the Spreadshirt booth.  They even set up a printer so people could make shirts on the spot.  You can check out more pictures of the clothes line and both at the Spreadshirt UK blog.
