How to become a successful Marketplace designer at Spreadshirt

What do Neo Rauch and spreadshirt Marketplace designers have in common? Correct, they both create artwork and offer them up for sale! Given, the commissions on the Marketplace don’t usually rake in $1 million of Brad Pitt’s money, but rather “only” $1.95 on average. But don’t give up on the Marketplace just yet: compared to Rauch’s work, these designs can be sold more than once, namely 7,832 times (the current record holder “I heart” design). That’s how the top 100 Marketplace designers are still able to earn an average of $180.97 per month. Take that Neo!

But how can you make it into the top 100 of the spreadshirt Marketplace? continue reading ‘How to become a successful Marketplace designer at Spreadshirt’

We want your designs! And we’ll tell you which ones

We took some time today to look a through our statistics and see if we could come up with something useful for our designers. We certainly found exactly that when we looked at some of the searches that were done recently in the Marketplace. We found various search terms with a lot of searches where only a few purchases were made by the customers after getting the results.

This means that we need more designs and better products for these particular searches. Then, the Spreadshirt customers will have a better chance of finding what they want, which then would hopefully show up in your next commission payouts.

Here are some of the searches where we need more designs and products: continue reading ‘We want your designs! And we’ll tell you which ones’

Why this is a good campaign T-shirt

I know election day is over and now we can finally take a break from all politics all the time. CNN ran this segment about election overload - one woman sent in an interview - she said she had to go swimming because that was the only way she could stay away from the news - this ireport clip is great too.

But this t-shirt at TeeCycle caught my eye.

Here are a few reasons why I think this makes a good campaign t-shirt:

  • logo is large - if you are trying to get a message across - it is much better to put your logo large, and in the front
  • url on the back - easy way for people to find out more about the candidate
  • easy to read - the text on the front and back is easy to read
  • color - a bright color makes this shirt stand out

What do you think makes a good campaign t-shirt?

Whats the difference between silver metallic and reflective flex?

We offer 2 different  shiny silver metallic flex colors - silver metallic flex and reflective flex.  While these look similar when you are designing online the end result is a little different.  I took some pictures of a shirt with silver metallic flex next to a shirt with reflective flex so you could see the difference.  the reflective flex is on the left.

This picture is without the flash, the reflective flex is a little darker color silver than the metallic.

This picture is with the flash, you can see how the reflective flex really reflects the light - I put this design on the back of my workout shirt so that it really stands out if I am out running/walking at night.

Text Inspiration

One of the easiest ways to make a really good looking shirt at Spreadshirt.com is to use text.  There are lots of things you can do with text and no design skills are needed.  One of the blogs I enjoy following on a daily basis is TeeCycle (see my other post on TeeCycle here).  I have even ordered some TeeCycled shirts for my sisters (One sister loves the Strand and the other is a Ski Nut).

Today’s TeeCycle shirt does a great job of using color and text and I think it is worth sharing. This shirt definity makes me want to get off of the couch and move.

Eight is Great

Eight is great. Today is the 8th day of the eight month of the year 2008. There is even a wikipedia page for August 8.

August 8 is also a day to sing Happy Birthday to :

  • LOS ANGELES, CA - NOVEMBER 2: Actor Dustin Ho... Dustin Hoffman ( I don’t know why he looks so serious in that picture).
  • Larry Wilcox - he was on CHIPS.
  • Kool Moe Dee

I thought some eight themed designs from the marketplace would be appropriate:How about an eight ball tote?

This design looks like the number 8

How long does it take to design a t-shirt?

{{PAGENAME}}Problogger has a post today that asks “How Long Do You Take To Write A Blog Post? Which is a really good question. I left a comment on this stating that good posts take time - I like to make sure that I am fact checking my info and adding relevant links. So I was thinking about this in terms of t-shirts.

How long does it take for you to design a t-shirt?

What are the things you like to make sure your shirt has before you add the shirt to the shop? Do you spend time on the design, how do you pick the style, the color?

Please share your thoughts - I am really interested to see how you think about creating your shirt. You don’t have to be a Spreadshirt user to answer this question. All are welcome to share their thoughts.
