The Virtual Dressing Room: Would Your Try on Clothes from Your Webcam?

One of the things that we often hear is a drawback to online shopping is that you can’t try something on before you buy it. Well now you can, sort of. Fast Company magazine has an article about a new tool called Fashionista - that lets you use your webcam to see how an item will look on you. Currently the online clothing shop Tobi allows shoppers to use Fashionista - check out this quick video about how Fashionista works.

The Fashionista tool lets you see other items that you might like and you can take a photo of you trying on the clothing to share on Facebook.

The H&M website used to have a tool that was powered by My Virtual Model - where you created an avatar of your self by entering your height and weight and even haircut. Then your avatar could try on clothes. This was kind of helpful because you could see how different items looked on an avatar that matched your body type. You can still create a virtual model at MyVirtual Model.

The H&M website now has a tool from Looklet - you can now put together a whole virtual outfit and event change the scenery for your model but you can’t make your model look like you.

What do you think? Does the virtual dressing room work?

I am also happy to have discovered the Tobi website - there are lots of great pants and shoes that would go with some of my favorite spreadshirt shirts (like these silver shoes!!).
