We do bamBOO too!

I just got a really cute email from this great shop in Hawaii, MuuMuu Heaven which is celebrating Halloween with a bamBOO sale. So I though I would post a reminder that Spreadshirt offers Bamboo t-shirts too.

Whats the difference between silver metallic and reflective flex?

We offer 2 different  shiny silver metallic flex colors - silver metallic flex and reflective flex.  While these look similar when you are designing online the end result is a little different.  I took some pictures of a shirt with silver metallic flex next to a shirt with reflective flex so you could see the difference.  the reflective flex is on the left.

This picture is without the flash, the reflective flex is a little darker color silver than the metallic.

This picture is with the flash, you can see how the reflective flex really reflects the light - I put this design on the back of my workout shirt so that it really stands out if I am out running/walking at night.

Tell us about your shirts in 140 Characters or Less

Elevator Pitch for Katie

Image by Marco Wessel via Flickr

Over the weekend ProBlogger ran a little experiment where for 48 hours anyone who wanted to was allowed to post a 140 character elevator pitch about their blog in the comments section of the post.  I think this is a really cool idea and that we should try it for t-shirts - so leave a comment and tell us about your shirt shop in 140 characters or less.  You don’t have to be a Spreadshirt shop partner - I think this will be a neat way to check out some other shirt shops.

ProBlogger just posted a follow up about the whole experiment - check out some of Darren’s picks for best elevator pick - I think they are pretty clever.

Political Halloween T-shirts and Political Pumpkins!

9 days until election day and 5 days until Halloween!! I honestly don’t know what I am more excited about. Here are a few blog posts about politics and Halloween.

  • T-shirt Magazine has an article about political Halloween t-shirts. Which shirts do you like best?
  • Political Pumpkins - check out some of these cool pumpkin carvings on the make blog.
  • Trick Or Vote - Trick or Vote is a nationwide nonpartisan costume canvass taking place on Halloween in a city near you. A spooky crew of monsters will be out in full force to remind young folks to vote, and you can be spooky too.

Check Out the New Spreadshirt Marketplace & Homepage

Today we have launched a new look for Spreadshirt.com and we wanted to give you an update about some of these exciting changes.

Products Instead of Designs
Instead of designs, we are now showing off products in the marketplace. Items are organized by gender and type - men, women, babies & kids and accessories.

Search & Filter
The search and filter function is the perfect match for the departments: just look for a topic, design or product. The search function includes a filter on the results page as well as a filter for misspellings.

Simplified Commission Model
After careful consideration we’ve decided to drop the product commission - for two reasons: first, it would confuse customers and cause “jumping prices” (if you buy a “premade” product in the MP it would have a different price then if you would have personalized the same product in the designer). Also, we saw that the product commission wasn’t heavily used anyway. That’s why we decided to simplify the commission structure: as a designer, you make your cut by just adjusting the design commission.

New Homepage
Included in the makeover is a new look for our homepage. It’s more dynamic and makes it easier for us to show what Spreadshirt is about: customized apparel.

What did we keep?

  • The Designer - The look and feel of the designer is the same. Customers can still choose their design and apparel directly from the designer.
  • The old marketplace a.k.a. “Design Network” - It’s there as well - but we have moved it over to the login area. So if you are interested in grabbing a design for your Spreadshop you can select the design from the product detail page or from the login area.

Paddle the Vote

Spread The Vote: Leading up to the election we will be blogging about all things t-shirt and election related. Find more great election t-shirts for you favorite candidates at our Spread the Vote page

While this isn’t a  Spreadshirt shirt, I thought was a very cleaver political t-shirt.

Democrat, Republican, Independant Paddle T-shirt

Venture Outdoors is a nonprofit organization here in Pittsburgh that helps people do more outdoor activities (I am a big supporter of this organization too!) Venture Outdoors runs a place called  Kayak Pittsburgh, which rents kayaks to anyone who wants to take a paddle along the rivers.  If you are even in Pittsburgh - this is a great way to see the city.

I love this idea of Democrat, Republican, Independent - can you think of any other sports or activities we could create a political t-shirt for?

podcamping-in-pittsburgh-this-weekend

Podcamping in Pittsburgh this weekend!

Just a last minute reminder about Podcamp Pittsburgh which happens this weekend!  Spreadshirt has been attending Podcamp PGH since the beginning.  We have some friends that have become shop partners with great shirts that we met at previous podcamps - hello WearPittsburgh!

Podcamp is a free unconference that happens in cities all across the US (even Hawaii).

Check out some of these posts from past Podcamp Pittsburgh events 2006 and 2007.  I will be there on Saturday afternoon and might host a session about merchandising.  If you are in Western, PA - I hope to see you there!

Getting into Maps - Map T-shirts and Putting Your Shirts on the Map

This weeks issue of T-magazine has a feature on t-shirts with maps on the shirts. I really like the one with the New York subway map on it. I recently saw a man wearing this shirt in a small town that was far far away from New York City.

This gives me the perfect opportunity you about or t-shirt shop map! I have been working on a big bad google map of Spreadshirt shops that sell t-shirts about a place. If your shirts are local - I want to put you on the map! More info about the t-shirt map here.

T-Magazine even has a YouTube clip of a map tank top. I thought I would share a favorite map video - this is from the episode of Friends where Joey says he needs to get into his map. When I open a map I often think of Joey saying this.

Even better - I found 2 other blog posts that reference this scene from Friends here and here! Glad to know I am not the only one who thinks of getting into maps.
