Temple’s Tip for July: Digital Designs

Temple is in charge of all things for Shops here at Spreadshirt. Each month she puts together her best ideas for the Temple’s Tip section of the newsletter (and I post them here on the blog).  This month has lots of great info so make sure you scroll down to the bottom!

Let’s talk about Digital Designs!

Many of you know we released a new digital print method, Digital Direct a couple months ago. Digital Direct is available on a limited number of products, but will soon replace both of the other printing methods. Note: When designing products with digital images, the Edit Design box below the product, will state the digital print method used.

Before we had Digital Transfer Overlay as the only printing method for digital images on colored apparel and due to its limitations, transparent files were not supported. Well, in case you haven’t heard, we DO support transparency now! If you have digital images uploaded to your shop with a background color or jpeg files, then we do Strongly Recommend updating your designs to transparent png or gif files. Once uploaded, then use the Edit Product Feature to replace your old digital version to your new digital version, for best quality and prints.

However, if your digital does have a background color and follows the third point under Digital Transfer Overlay, then we will remove the background color for Digital Direct printing, too. While removing the background color, we noticed some of the images, mostly customer uploaded designs, have white/colored pixels along the edges of the design under the background. When viewing the image before the print, then these ‘artifacts’ are not seen, but when the design prints on the shirt, is when they become visible.

We wanted to share this information with shop owners, so when creating new designs for your shop or updating your current digital designs, then it is best to use transparent images. However, if you want to stick with the background color and remove note for your current digitals, then check them out for these ‘artifacts.’ For more information and pictures on this topic, please visit our Shop Owner Forum.
