There is a Reuters article that came up in my google news today that w00t has been named the word of the year.
“w00t,” an expression of joy coined by online gamers, was crowned word of the year on Tuesday by the publisher of a leading U.S. dictionary.
Massachusetts-based Merriam-Webster Inc. said “w00t” — typically spelled with two zeros — reflects a new direction in the American language led by a generation raised on video games and cell phone text-messaging.
Here is my question (and my shirt) - is w00t really a word? It is spelled with 2 letters and 2 zeros so is it really a word? Does a word have to be all letters to be a word?

I am really loving the neon pink flex on the sky blue shirt. I think the sky blue shirt is my favorite color of t-shirt.
The article is kind of interesting - it talks about how w00t and other words have become popular because of text messaging. It is kind of funny to think that the dictionary is being influenced by text messaging.

Lindsay, I love words, so thanks for pointing this out. I think Webster’s is trying to be too hip. Facebook isn’t at the “verb” yet, and w00t is a sub-section of geek speak. But hey, maybe I’m too old? :-), Jana
Have to say, I don`t even know the meaning.
