More on the Marketplace

(This is a repost of from the Spreadshirt UK Blog - Adam did another great job describing the new Marketplace I wanted to make sure we shared this info about THE NEW SPREADSHIRT with our US friends too!)

Including:

“I’m new here, whats the marketplace again?”

“Commission. Thats bitching, tell me more.”

“Whats the difference between a product and design?”

“If I submit a design where can it go?”

“I found a great design and I want to totally ruin it by adding a tacky pun. What customisation options do I have?”

1. I’m new here, whats the Marketplace again?”

Where have you been? Welcome to the party… The Marketplace unites all our main customer types, Graphic Designers, Buyers and Shop-partners. Here’s how it works:

1. Graphic Designers offer their designs to the marketplace, setting a commission per sale.

2. Shop-partners can pick the best designs from the marketplace and add them to their Spreadshop. They can add an additional commission, so per sale, both them and the artist get compensated.

So you need no graphic design skills to have really attractive products in your shops. This should bring together those with traffic, and those with artistic flair.

3. End Customers can use the Marketplace designs as the start of their customization experience or just buy them as finished products from the Marketplace or a partners Spreadshop. Now its will be really easy to find great designs to turn into even greater apparel. We’ll help by offering a host of features like tagging, rating, blogging, flagging, saving etc.

2. Whats the difference between a product and design?”

Design&Products

Products are finished articles combining graphics with an item of the Spreadshirt Assortment. They are purchased as seen and not customizable.

Designs can be altered, adding text or changing the location of the design. Designs in the marketplace can also be turned into products for other shops, which products can’t.

3. I found a great design and I want to totally ruin it by adding a tacky pun. What customisation options do I have?”

Design ready for customising

Plenty. Just click “Create and buy a t-shirt with this design” on a design you like. From there you can add text, additional designs, alter design position on the shirt.

4. If I submit a design where can it go?”

Three places:

  1. Into the Marketplace for all to see.

    One design in the marketplace

  2. It can be “grabbed” and used by other shop-partners in their shops.

3. In the Spreadshirt Designer on our site, and on partners sites that have their own Designer

“5. I would like to submit to the marketplace, but don’t want other shop-partners using my designs!”

Simple, create products using your designs. Submit them instead. Products can’t be “grabbed” and added to other Spreadshops.

Products

6. Commission. Thats bitching, tell me more.”

Sure. So now we have a two part commission model. Design commission and product commission.

Commission Model Overview

Here is how it works:

I’m just a designer, not a shop-partner:

You only have to worry about one commission the design commission. You set this when you submit the design to the marketplace. Whenever the design is sold, in the marketplace, in the Spreadshirt Designer or in another Spreadshirt shop-partners shop, you’ll make that commission.

I’m a Shop-partner, using someone else’s designs:

Then the design commission is set for you by the designer. You can add your additional commission by adding a “product commission” to the product you create with that design. You both earn the relevant commission per sale.

I’m both Shop-partner & Designer. I can do it all.

a) You can add a commission to your design -> Then you will earn this design commission for every sale, whether its from the marketplace, your shop or another spreadshirt shop-partners shop through the Marketplace.

b) You can add a commission to your product -> Then you will earn you both the product commission and any additional design commission for any design elements that product used.

An example:

In the Old System:

Product with simple design:

Base Price: 12.90€

Your set Commission: 1.10€

Total for a Customer in your Shop/Marketplace: 14.00€

In the new System:
(assuming you added a design commission of €3 when you submitted the design to the Marketplace)

Product with simple design:

Base Price: 12.90€

Your set Product Commission: 1.10€

Design Commission: 3.00€

Total for a Customer in your Shop/Marketplace: 17.00€

7. If I submit a design to the marketplace, will it affect products in my shop?”

Yep it might. So if you add a design commission of €3, all the products in your shop that rely on that design will have a €3 design commission added to them, as in the example above. You can offset this by reducing the product commission if the new price is too high.

I’ve heard enough, how do I submit?

Add a design to the marketplace

Go to the designs/products section of the Admin. Select “Add to marketplace” for the design you want to submit, fill in the information. Bob is your uncle.

We’re also working on some video’s to show you the more complicated aspects with the added benefit of motion video.

Anything else you want covered? Let me know and we’ll make a part 3.
