Now that Valentine’s day is behind us we are hard at work on St. Patrick’s Day spirit here at the Spreadshirt HQ. While sitting here in the office discussing green shirts and shipping dates, Leah reminded all of us of the fact that St. Patrick’s Day mean the return of the Shamrock Shake! Oh yeah, you know you love the shamrock shake.
So I consulted our good friend the Wikipedia, and yes shake lovers, the shamrock shake has it’s very own wikipedia page, for some shamrock shake trivia.
- Shamrock shakes are sold in Ireland year round
- Shamrock shakes are only sold in some US cities in March
- In the 1980’s McDonalds had a character just to market the shamrock shakes - Uncle O’Grimacey
I also discovered some awesome websites dedicated to the shamrock shakes. Bring Back the Shamrock Shake is a website dedicated to lobbying McDonalds to bring back the tasty green shakes. They have links to even more shamrock shake stories, even a paper about McDonalds that discusses the timing of the shakes.
On X-Entertainment’s The Quest For The Shamrock Shake - I noticed a screen shot of what appears to be a shamrock shake commercial. So I did a quick search for shamrock shake on YouTube, yes there are multiple shamrock shake commercials available to see…

I thought that big green guy looked an awful lot like Grimace (my favorite McDonald’s character), and his name, Uncle O’Grimacey, confirms my suspicions. I guess they’re related.
