Really? Yes. Santa (aka my dad) gave me a t-shirt made out of bamboo. This is the softest t-shirt I have ever found. It looks nicer than your average cotton t-shirt. I found out about bamboo t-shirts at PodCamp Pittsburgh back in November. There is actually a company right here in Pittsburgh, Jonano, that makes a shirt called ecoKashmere.
Why use bamboo? Here are some advantages of using bamboo from the Bamboo Styles website:
Softness: Our 100% Bamboo apparel is softer than the softest cotton. Our Bamboo/Organic cotton blends are also extremely soft but heavier in weight. This blend allows for more structure in our styles. The special process for garment dying our shirts adds even extra softness.
Protective: Unlike other anti-microbial fabrics, which require chemical treatment; bamboo fiber clothing is naturally anti-microbial which requires no harmful chemicals to be added. It contains an agent called “bamboo kun” that prevents bacteria from cultivating. (Test this by leaving it in the washing machine for several days-no mildew!) Bamboo fiber also has wicking properties to absorb and dry sweat faster than cotton. Bamboo apparel is not only comfortable and breathable, but is also thermal regulating - keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. If that isn’t enough, Bamboo contains natural UV protection!
Natural/Sustainable: Classified as a tropical grass, Bamboo is nature’s most sustainable resource and is grown without pesticides or any other chemicals. It is also 100% biodegradable and naturally regenerative (aka: a renewable resource!). Bamboo is one of the world’s most prolific and fastest-growing plants, with some species growing up to 4 feet per day and reaching maturity in three to four years. This is compared to the typical 25 to 70 years for commercial tree species in the U.S. Bamboo is planted and grown on family-owned farms that have been in agricultural use for generations. Around the world, over 2.5 billion people work with or depend on bamboo as a natural resource – so, it’s time we got in the game!
We are ordering some samples to test out here at Spreadshirt. Would you be interested in having your design printed on a bamboo t-shirt?

Since bamboo shirts are amazing, I think it would be a great option! It might be hard to convince somebody who hasn’t felt one before to pay the extra dollars, though.
[I think my first attempt to comment failed... but apologies if this is a repeat!]
I think that having bamboo shirts as an option would be great. They’re really soft and better for the environment than cotton shirts are. It might be kind of difficult to get somebody to spend the extra dollars on one without them having felt a bamboo shirt for themselves, though. Out of curiosity, which wholesalers are ou looking into? In the US, I’ve only been able to find Spun Bamboo and Bamboosa (although I know there is at least one more in the UK).
“Bamboo T-shirts” Would be a fantastic add-on to Spreadshirt, this is the future in clothing. I know it would be a a bit more expense for a tshirt but the comfort and quality is well worth it. i think there would be a market for these kind of shirt…… it would be different.

Bamboo would be fantastic, particularly if they’re locally [Pittsburgh]made.
