Yet another review of Spreadshirt’s products has arrived for our Twardrobe series. This time Simon reviewed our Men’s Summer Shirt from Continental. I must say here that girls have the distinct advantage that they can pull off wearing a men’s shirt. You won’t see many guys running around in our Spaghetti Top. Who are you? What do you do?
My Name is Simon and I study Communication Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden. I am also a proud Shop Partner at Spreadshirt. My shop °white tees offers designs which are based on graphic design, as well as shirts based on fonts and photography. I’ve only recently put together my shop and am putting a lot of time and work into the new designs. New designs should be arriving over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.

What do you like about how the shirt looks?
The design: brilliant! But, it is from my shop I like the shirt itself just as much as the design.

I know that Twitter twordplay has had its hype, but we’ve had the Twordrobe series running for a while now and we all know not to change tworses in midstream. But you can make the horse better! We’ve decided to improve upon the Twordrobe idea, namely with more shirts and products which already exist in our apparel range. All together we are offering 8 products up for testing.

In regards of the colours: usually the most popular colours are black, white, blue and red. Of course what you offer always also depends on your niche, your target group - and your designs. But I hope this list is helpful to you in terms of which products to add.

Kristina flew in from the States over the weekend and we didn’t waste any time getting her on camera to talk about apparel. After a quick introduction, she enlightens us about the decision process for selecting new products for our Apparel Assortment. I am probably not the only one out there who has trouble keeping up with their Google Reader. So when Tobias asked me if I had recently checked American Apparel’s “Daily Update” blog, I scrolled down to come across a link to NY Mag’s Fall fashion piece by Hugo Lindgren entitled T-Shirt by Darwin.

The article deals with the well-known and oft-mentioned James Dean-sian beginnings of the t-shirt, but focuses much on the recent developments of the tee, much of them coupled with new techniques and technology. As many of you may have noticed, we here at Spreadshirt have put a big emphasis on fashion. Most notably was the introduction of the Exclusive Line last year, bringing personalised fashion to a whole new level. We are also constantly expanding our large apparel assortment with new cuts and colours.

My personal favourite from this month’s additions is the Trustafarian Hoodie from the US brand Howe – authentic and elegant yet still retaining a laissez-faire approach to fashion. I like the name too – a mix of trust fund and Rastafarian – wearing it allows you to assume a lifestyle (without actually being a spoiled rich hippie). I had a chance to try one on and, despite the warm summer heat, didn’t want to take it off – it’s that comfortable to wear. I wish I were wearing it now.

Another highlight is the addition of dark navy to the Women’s ¾ Sleeve Top from American Apparel. As it is already available in red, black, white and lavender, this top can be combined with hair, skin tones, skirts, trousers and shoes of all kinds. Well-displayed by our model, this compromise between long and short sleeves is light, simple and classically chic.

We’ve also expanded the colours for the Women’s Long Sleeve V-Neck, the Kid’s Classic T-Shirt and the Kid’s Hoodie. The Kid’s Contrast Shirt is also now available in large for the big’ns. Taking a look at the other custom apparel platforms out there, you simply can’t get the selection and colour offerings found in Spreadshirt’s assortment anywhere else. And we’re proud of that fact.

One of the questions we often get is: what are the best-selling products at Spreadshirt? Since this question is pretty easy to answer and the results are relatively constant, we came up with this nifty image of the top 10 products for you. The image also shows the top colours which sold best for those products in the first quarter of 2009 (in order of their popularity).

Just because these products sell so well doesn’t mean you should immediately flood the Marketplace with these products our apparel assortment has much, much more to offer.

A few months ago, we sent one of our test lab employees over to the relatively young Berlin fashion label Emperor’s Clothing. They have been working hard on developing a new fabric and we thought that “Earth Month” would be the right time to introduce, drum roll please, the “Revolutee”! The name might sound a bit presumptuous at first glance, but give it a chance. We are definitely expecting a lot from this product, especially since the most common reasons for shirt returns are: wrong size, wrong colour or that the cut doesn’t fit.

Those are exactly the points which our test lab teamed up with Emperor’s to solve – and they hit the nail right on the head. Their shirt is not only unisex and available in every colour imaginable, it is also suitable for every occasion – and it is the first unisex shirt which has truly earned that title. What does this mean for you? Simply add a design and order it. There’s no more need to find the right style and size, washing it is elementary and it’s 100% organic. Note: the Revolutee(on) is expected to be available this coming Monday when we roll out the other new additions to our assortment. Stay tuned!
