Jessica Hagy is well known in the blogoshere for her unique take on Mathematical Charts and Venn Diagrams. Over on her blog, Indexed, you can find over 500 notecards filled with my personal favourites such as Danger!Danger!, Let it go and Ticked. Jessicas “doodles” have proven so popular that she now has her own book (for sale on Amazon), and her own Spreadshirt Shop! Jessica was kind enough to answer a few of Michels questions, which can be found in the full post…
>>When did you start your Spreadshop?
I think it was in early 2007.
>>You do math with emotions. Did you like maths as a subject at school?
No! I was much more word-oriented, and actually work as a writer.
> > Did your math teacher do a good job in retrospect?
I have at least a dozen math teachers, and some were better than others. My 7th grade history teacher, Mrs. Urban, was probably my all time favorite, because she encouraged me to be creative.
> > What’s wrong with powerpoint presentations? Is there anything wrong with powerpoint presentations?
Powerpoint is a program that, in the wrong hands, can kill a good idea and put people to sleep.
> > Would you mind if people used your graphs to spice up otherwise dry powerpoint presentations?
Not at all. If I can help save someone from a wretched power-point presentation, that’s great.
> > Where do you reside?
I live in Ohio, in the States.
> > Do people send you their own graphs occasionally?
Every now and then. I keep them all in a file, though I’m not sue what to do with them yet.
> > What would be a good epitaph graph?
And X/Y graph with two of the deceased greatest strengths, the name carved in the upper right corner.
> > How could we help you improve on your shop performance? Are you satisfied with Spreadshirt as a custom merchandise provider?
I would love to be able to turn every image into a shirt (or give readers the option to do so), but with over 1000, I’m not sure that would be feasible.
