Introducing the Marketplace pt.1

Header

Heres a post introducing one new area of the future site, the Spreadshirt Marketplace. The idea behind this service is that all our customer demographics have a different reasons for using the site, and that we want to help you all connect more.

How does the marketplace help? Find out in the full post…

Well the plan is that it becomes the central point between you all. So as a shop-partner you can:

1. Offer your designs and products on the Marketplace, and set a commission level you would like to receive per sale.

2. Take the most popular designs from the Marketplace and add them to your shop. Not all of us are great designers, but using this feature we can have great designs. The designer sets a commission per sale. You can add your own additional markup on a marketplace design, and every sale means a commission for the two of you.

3. Spend your free time getting inspiration from awesome designs.

If you have traffic, but not the designs, you can borrow from the marketplace. If you have designs, but less traffic you can give to the marketplace and still get credit and recognition for your brand and traffic back to your shop, by showcasing some of your designs in the marketplace. If you want to make great apparel, you can buy from the marketplace or a partner shop. If you don’t want any of these things and you’re more the private party type, you can just do what you were doing before, safe in the knowledge that theres another sales/promotional channel available should you need it ;)

Submission to marketplace feature should go be live tomorrow. Get in there early while its quiet and bag a prime spot.

How will customers find cool stuff?

A number of different ways:

a) Using the super sophisticated “similar designs” functionality. How it works is a secret to be taken to the grave (cough, tags, cough), Pete has secured a home for the patent in a safe at Sealand. Example below shows how it intuitively links from the pot of gold, to other irish themed designed. Genius.

Pot O'Gold

b) Voting, Tagging, Flagging, Saving, E-mailing etc etc there are a ton of ways to interact with the products/designs in the marketplace.

c) Aimlessly stumbling around. Ah, the joys of aimlessly stumbling.

Pt.2 of this feature is on the cards. Featuring such content highlights (probably) as

“I’m new here, whats the marketplace again?”

“Commission. Thats bitching, tell me more.”

“Whats the difference between a product and design?”

“If I submit a design where can it go?”

“I found a great design and I want to totally ruin it by adding a tacky pun. What customisation options do I have?” ;)

Anything else you specifically want covered, just ask.

If you haven’t seen it for yourself yet here are some more codes for the test beta:
