Our mission…

Mission Statement

Spreadshirt has been growing and growing a phenomenal rate in the past year or so. We’ve re-evaluated our Mission Statement in light of this and we’re proud to reveal our new mantra (drum roll…):

“To be the world’s creative apparel platform”.

On a serious note, we think it better represents:

- That we are now a global company.

- That our main focus and expertise is in printing on apparel. We can customise just about anything you can print on, but its really apparel printing that we excel that and will focus on.

- The flexibility in our platform. We think there’s a lot of freedom to flex your creative muscles.

We’ve tried to keep this sort, to the point and avoid the many mission statement taboos.I not sure mission statements are as common in the UK as the US. But I can see the value of having one overall goal framing everything a company does. A good mission statement should be meaningful to both the employees and the customers, and evolve with the business.

Often criticised for containing nothing but corporate speak, the humble mission statement has taken some criticism recently. Google’s “don’t be evil” motto in particular. But who couldn’t be inspired whilst working under these mantra’s (emphasis added on the best bits):

“To unlock the potential of nature to improve the quality of life.” - AMD

“We are a global family with a proud heritage passionately committed to providing personal mobility for people around the world.” - Ford

“The mission of The Walt Disney Company is to be one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer products, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world.”

“People love our clothes and trust our company. We will market the most appealing and widely worn casual clothing in the world. We will clothe the world.” - Levi

If your looking for a mission statement you could also ask Dilbert to automatically generate one for you, he created on my visit

“Our mission is to quickly provide access to prospective solutions while continuing to enthusiastically leverage other’s multimedia based sources to stay competitive in tomorrow’s world”.

Its perfect. Hot air. Intangibles. “Tomorrows world”? “Enthusiastically leverage” is my favourite. I think you have to be careful of the setting in which you use the term “Enthusiastically Leverage”, there’s something kind of arrestable about it.

Whats your favourite corporate or personal mission statement?

Ever since reading this post (two minutes) “Global families unlocking their natural potential” haunt my vision. Can I be a relative to that family I wonder? And what will Mickey discover when he finally differentiates his content: styrofoam AND shoddy?

This is not becoming for the Spreadshirt. On a more modest key, I should just say that We are the world’s cultural pinnacle, the outcome and resolution of economic evolution, the consummation, fulfillment and transcendence of any cycles of development, the meaning and incarnation of progress, tillers of the promised land. Or better yet, as the Republic of Tonga’s Greater Municipal Services have it: “We rule. You buy”

    Hi Adam,

    Great mantra!

Here’s some questions specifically directed to Spreadshirt and probably even La Fraise. Your previous answers might overlap with these ones…sorry about that.

I’m an MA student at the London College of Fashion and currently doing some research for an assignment and wondered if I could pick your brain? My topic is on consumer trends and my research is on the idea of technology being an enabler for consumers to play a more active role by producing their own content. I’m using the e.g. of the phenomenon of blogging and customisation facilities provided by sites like Threadless, Spreadshirt and Cafe Press.

Would really appreciate if you could provide some insights on the following:

    a. Firstly do you agree that technology is an enabler?

    b. why you think blogging has become such a phenomenon and how do you use it in your business?

    c. can you provide insights on your experiences with the technology that has enabled you to do business online.

Thanks for your time. Really appreciate all your help!

    Many thanks,
    Ilaine Navea

Uh, shouldn’t that be “To be the world’s creative apparel platform”? i.e. with correct punctuation? I’m not really the internet grammar police but c’mon, it’s the mission statement and the whole point of the post.

To be quite honest, as a shopkeeper, what matters is that we (shopkeepers Spreadshirt) put out a quality product that we can be proud of, and make that as well as excellent customer service the priority. Please don’t get sucked into all this useless, top-heavy corporate crap. We don’t need a mission statement or more bureaucracy. We need quality people who care about their output and about the customer. ‘Nuff said.

Whoops, ‘ added. an unforgiveable shaming of the punctuation code of conduct.

As for the “useless, top-heavy corporate crap” I dis-agree. This mission statement shapes our focus as a company. It tells you that we are focused primarily on apparel, that we probably wont offer customisable frisbees or widgets. That we see ourselves as a platform for your creative, and that we want to be a global solution enabling you to sell effortlessly to anyone, anywhere.

Everything else you’ve said I couldn’t agree more with. The minute you feel your not getting it, get in touch.
