This was too hard to resist: according to the Guardian, the wealthy like to dress poor. According to reports, the country’s best like to dress like the proletariat do. An insider reporter says the new rage is the “‘chav bop’ - a disco where you dress up as a working-class person - is an immovable fixture not only at public schools, but also throughout Oxford’s colleges”. There is then a short history of the movement (unfortunately excluding resident chav queen Sienna Miller). Then the philosophical question: is there even a working class anymore that is now being portrayed and nostalgised (that’s not a word) by the obscenely rich? Or the more interesting question, does that mean we can start selling them t-shirts?
