UPDATE: Contest is over, submission form is closed.
Thanks for participating! We will discuss the entries and pick a winner in the next few days.
Welcome to the very first Spreadshirt API Contest
As we mentioned in the blog a few weeks ago, we are looking for innovative and outstanding tools that show what you can put on a t-shirt by utilizing our API.
We don’t want to limit your creativity and bother you with categories or detailed guidelines, but please read and consider the following points so you know what the contest is about and what kind of applications we want to award with prize money.
What is Spreadshirt looking for?
We encourage you to build an application that uses Spreadshirt’s REST API. As the only real requirement a customer must be able to add a product into the basket.
Of course, you can submit your own shop that you’ve developed with our API. However, we are especially looking for
- social media and mobile applications
- mashups and plugins that use Spreadshirt’s and other APIs (e.g. Magento commerce, WordPress, Joomla)
- tools that can be used by our partners to bring any kind of content to life on t-shirts
These are just some directions — it’s up to you what kind of app you develop, and if you come up with something completely different and unexpected, that’s great too.
How long will the contest run?
The contest is open for submissions from now until May 31st, 2011, 11:59 PM.
Who can participate?
If you work at Spreadshirt you can participate as well, however Spreadshirt employees are excluded from any monetary prizes. (Praise and fame for outstanding work is included, though)
What’s the prize?
A jury that consists of Spreadshirt employees will award three submissions in early June. The winners are awarded with a monetary prize:
- 1st place: 3,000 EUR
- 2nd place: 2,000 EUR
- 3rd place: 1,000 EUR
How and where do I submit?
You can either participate by submitting your entry in our API Forum or simply submit it by using this form.
Please find more details about the API, registering for an API key etc. in our developer wiki.
What happens with my app if I win?
Depending on the purpose and use of the app we’ll buy your app and will release it to all our partners.
Why would Spreadshirt buy my app?
In the past we have seen a lot of promising and cool apps that have been orphaned over time. So the idea with “buying the app” is not about a “buy out” of your IP, but rather to make sure the Spreadshirt community has access to these apps and can improve them — even if you lose interest. If you want to maintain your app by yourself of course we’d be foolish not to acknowledge that and we’re happy to support that, too.
What happens if I don’t win?
You still can use your submission with your own shop, utilize the Spreadshirt Marketplace or distribute it to interested partners.
Where can I find more information about the Spreadshirt API?
The first place to go probably is the API documentation. You’ll also find more details in the developer blog. Please keep in mind that the API still is in beta. So if you found a bug or have feedback on the API, or questions and comments about the API contest in general, please use the API forum.
Some words in legalese
If you build something with the help of other APIs, please make sure you don’t violate any third party rights, copyrights or licenses.
If you are a fan of official rules and small print please have a look at the official API contest T&Cs (English) or the Teilnahmebedingungen (Deutsch).
And now .. let the games begin! Have fun – we’re really looking forward to your apps!
